During the research for this book, my colleagues from the Future Leaders in Philanthropy – or FLiP – community helped pull together a thoughtful and informal focus group on millennial attitudes and causes. Over the last two years, FLiP (which is part of onPhilanthropy.com and Changing Our World) has grown from the kernel of an idea to a thriving social network of more than 2,000 young professionals and career-changers. If you’re in or around New York the last week in June, you’ll want to mark FLiP’s next event on your calendar; the group will hold a networking event to be held on Thursday, June 26th at BlackFinn in New York City, 218 East 53rd Street (between 2nd and 3rd Avenues) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The guest speakers are my boss and friend Mike Hoffman, chairman and CEO, and my brother Chris Watson, president, of Changing Our World, Inc. – they’ll talk about starting out in this sector, working in it and founding their own successful philanthropic services consulting firm. I’ve been privileged to help guide the FLiPsters over the past couple of years and I’ve been to a bunch of their events – big crowds, great networking, a lot of fun. Put it on your calendar.
